Nissan Patrol Falcon, Gazelle and Gazelle-X revealed at the event
Convoy of over 100 Patrol Safaris led the way from Dubai to Mleiha
Dubai, UAE: 24 October 2018 – Nissan hosted almost 2,500 Patrol Safari fans to celebrate the launch of the newest editions to the Safari family - the Patrol Falcon, Gazelle and Gazelle-X. The event took place in the unique and captivating Mleiha desert, one of the most important historical sites in the UAE, further underscoring the cultural significance of the Patrol Safari range to people in the country.
A convoy of Nissan Patrols, hailing from all emirates of the UAE, led the way to the event, travelling together from Meydan in Dubai, to Mleiha in Sharjah. Ranging from the most up-to-date models to meticulously cared for classics, the convoy encompassed over 100 cars, all driven by proud Patrol Safari owners excited to join in the celebration and discover the new cars.
During the course of the event, attendees were given an advanced preview of the new Patrol Falcon, Gazelle and Gazelle X models, ahead of their going on sale to the wider public. Guests were able to explore the features of the cars, as well as put them through their paces with dune bashing test drive experiences on offer.
The three new editions were dramatically revealed to attendees through a powerful ‘3D Mapping’ that was projected directly on to the mountain rock, whilst the cars suddenly appeared out of the darkness of the desert. The giant projection measured an epic 150 metres in length and 65 metres in height and was followed by a light-effect that stretched across 600 metres of the mountain wall.
Commenting on the success of the event, Kalyana Sivagnanam, Regional Vice President, Marketing and Sales, Nissan AMI and President of Nissan Middle East said: “We say that ‘Every Land Has Its Legend’ and, having been part of the UAE for over 60 years, the Nissan Patrol range is truly part of the very fabric of the country. This occasion was Nissan’s very first ‘Eco-System’ event and it brought almost 2,500 passionate Patrol Safari fans and Nissan partners together in a truly unique setting. We were thrilled by the number of people who attended, by their enthusiastic participation, and by the reception they gave the new Patrol Falcon, Gazelle and Gazelle-X models. This event really has emphasised the enduring popularity that Patrol Safari range continues to enjoy in the UAE and the wide Gulf Region.”
As well as taking part in the pre-event convoy, owners also had the opportunity to enter the Patrol Safari ‘Legends Competition’ for the chance to win an all-expenses paid trip to the Japan. This celebration of Safari-ownership featured three different categories; Best Looking (which judged the cars both on their interior and exterior), Best Maintained (which was open to vintage Patrol owners), and Best Tuned (which focused on cars modified to improve their off-roading capabilities). Over 50 cars were entered into the competition which was judged by a team of automotive experts and enthusiasts.
In addition, Safari-fans were given the opportunity to further enhance their rides at the event. Top car tuners and stands displaying additional accessories were on hand to help owners fine-tune their Patrols for desert driving or add finishing touches to the cars.
As well as an evening of automotive delights, a programme of cultural and heritage-inspired entertainment activities kept the crowd entertained. This included live performances from local talent including Arabic singers, traditional dancers and Handpan musicians. Activities such as camel riding, Arabic calligraphy stand, henna artists, sand art and a poetry wall were also on offer during the course of the night.
